Thank You, Lord, for Bringing the Children Home!

By the grace of God, all 26 orphans who lived at Angel House Orphanage were granted "parole status" visas and allowed to go home to their waiting families in the United States and Canada. Many volunteers and adoptive parents worked hard to achieve this goal for the children after the horrific earthquake which took place in Haiti on January 12th. So many families and friends of Three Angels prayed for the children and their safety. In the end, God heard each prayer. The children arrived in the U.S. in the early evening of Monday, January 18th.

Pierce, Florida to meet with their families. Without the assistance of MFI, these amazing and heart-warming reunions would not have happened.

Please be with Abbey as she takes care of the children, and please bless Megan for her selflessness to check on the children and send these photos to us. The Treasure Chest

Miss Abbey has a special way of recognizing good behavior in the home school classroom at Angel House. Each child is able to receive a sticker on a sticker chart for following the class rules, doing seat work, getting along with the other students, etc. Every so often, the kids have the opportunity to go shopping at the "Treasure Chest Store" and pick out so fun surprises based on the number of stickers they have earned.

The kids have responded so well to this new incentive program. Not only are the working on behaving during school, they are learning the value of saving up for something special. This is a wonderful way to accentuate the positive behavior but also allow the children to have some personal treasures of their own.

Thank you once again, Miss Abbey, for making home school so fun! You are such a blessing to all the children at Angel House!

Parkway Church from Surprise, Arizona is spending the week at Three Angels. As always, lots is happening during their visit. The men are building a new kitchen for the cooks, the teens are spending lots of time loving on the kids and everyone is having a wonderful time. The mission is so blessed to have such a fabulous group serving!

It wouldn't be any fun if we didn't get to EAT the pumpkin bread some of the children made. After baking the bread and letting it cool, everyone enjoyed a piece of fresh pen gimou in addition to their regular snack of Baguette and mamba.

It's fall in Haiti, too! Last week we read a book about the

pumpkin patch, so of course we had to make something

edible using PUMPKINS!!!

The older six children helped make an amazing

loaf of pumpkin bread.

As we went through the recipe, each child got

the chance to taste each individual ingredient (tongues out!)

except for the raw egg! :-)

The children at Angel House were introduced to a...newly-found snail. Edward, as the children named it, spent a couple of days at the orphanage.

Wanting the children to enjoy the amazing creativity of our God, the week was spent learning about snails and other wonderful animals God has created. What a fun way to learn --- hands-on with a really cool visual aid!During Edward's visit, Reece was the only one brave enough to hold the snail (including the grown-ups!) So once the snail lesson was complete, all the kids decided it was best to let Edward go back home - into nature, another one of God's awesome creations!

Happy Birthdays At Angel House

Marcia recognizes the kids’ birthdays each month with cake, a bag of goodies, and many happy birthday wishes! The kids put candles on the cake for however many years they are turning.

We have a Birthday Calendar in our homeschooling classroom. Each child’s birthday is listed, so the children are learning when the birthdays arrive and that each person has their special day!

It's never too exciting to clean up after working in the kitchen, but the boys did a great job washing the bowls and enjoyed doing it, too. Bravo!

High School Buddies

Within walking distance of Angel House is a Christian school called Quisqueya. Quisqueya School is associated with Port au Prince Fellowship Church where many of our mission teams attend service on Sunday mornings. It is a K-12 school; which serves missionary families and the Haitian bourgeois in the Port au Prince area.

Most recently, Angel House and Quisqueya School have teamed up to work together. The first Thursday of each month, 10^th graders come to work with the children at Angel House. The ratio of teens to orphans is 1 to 1, so the children are getting lots of attention! In addition, the children have been paired up with the students for the school year allowing everyone to form a special bond.

This month the teens played group games with the kids, ate lunch with them, went crazy with stickers and face paint. They played with the giant parachute and decorated cupcakes. The kids loved the attention and affection and cannot wait for their High School Buddies to return.

In fact we have 2 baby boys and Stephy that still need families. We will put them on the website, but we were getting so much interest for a while that I thought we could find them homes just from referrals internally. He is a snuggler and all three kids are paper ready!

Taking time out to play in the rain with Teacher Abbey. (You know the nannies thought they were crazy!) Thank you, Abbey, for teaching our children to write, read and to play!

Here is an update that Abbey sent to us this week:

· The older kids know their number places 1-10th and a nifty little song to help remember!

· Hermann has responded well to the one-on-one tutoring with Marcia and Marcia has discovered that his best time of day is right after nap time.

· Abbey began reading Price Caspian with the older kids. They’re all hanging with it thus far (but I think Reece is getting the most out of it) and we just finished chapter 5.

· We had a team of 32 teens from Quesquaias Christian school in Thursday. They played with the kids, did activities, etc., and will be volunteering the first Thursday of every month!

· All of the older kids are finally on the same page with their handwriting.

· Fritzner helped with school two days in the afternoon & it was very helpful.

The children love story time! Each day, Abbey reads aloud to the children both upstairs and down. The kids LOVE it! Not only do the children enjoy the stories, but they love hearing the English words and learning how to speak the language. This is a great way for the children to learn to sit in a group, follow directions and listen to a story, as well.

Angel House is in need of some quality children's books right now. Most of the books at the orphanage have been loved for some time and are worn, torn and missing pages. If you would like to donate some classic children's books or some of your favorite read-alouds, please contact Colleen at colleen@threeangleshaiti.org She will be sending a shipment of books down to Haiti very soon.

The children at Angel House, as well as TA's staff's children, had a wonderful week learning about God's love - Veggie Tales style. We had a week of games, crafts, songs, stories, nutritious snacks and worship about the Lord. With a different bible point presented each day, the week's theme *God has made each one of us special* was shared.

The VBS team consisted of 15 volunteers from the States. They spent each morning sharing the theme and assuring each and every child knew God love everyone. There were so many smiles, giggles and hugs - everyone walked away truly feeling God's love and that each one of us is special to Him.

The Nons

Shannon here. I just wanted to share a few things from my most recent trip to Three Angels. I had traveled to Haiti to help with graduation at Three Angels Christian Academy, which was great, but I was most moved by how God is using the Nonweilers. I've been to Haiti over a dozen times in the last couple of years but have never left more encouraged that we are on the right path.

As you know, we have been praying and looking for a couple for a long, long time who could lead the charge down in Haiti (because as we all have learned, God works in His own time, not ours). Well, I want to publicly say that we are incredibly grateful for the gift He has given us! God has fortified our all-volunteer team in an awesome way!

Three Angels is on the path to fantastic improvements that I thought I would share here first.

The Household.

One of the biggest differences I noticed was how TA now feels like a home. Walking upstairs to the nursery I was hit by how CLEAN and CALM the room now was. Spotless, organized and an enjoyable place to be! The reduction of children has much to do with it but the majority is the team effort that is now in place. (The Nons, Megan, Colleen and the head nannies)

Let me start by saying that Marcia's nickname at the O is 'Pwop Pwop', or 'Clean Clean'. She has definitely earned that moniker and has set a new standard that we have all longed for. With Colleen helping to purchase new mattresses and a handful of other people stepping up there has been an amazing transformation. Many children have been able to go home and others have been graduated to downstairs. Be sure and see the previous post on Stephania! All in all, it is just less overwhelming.

The bigger nursery kids are able to go downstairs for many hours each day to color and play outside. This is a win-win in that it gives the babies a little 'calm' time as they stay upstairs and the biggers ones get to burn off some extra energy and get some change of scenery.

Marcia and the team have been painting, cleaning, purging, cleaning, creating new systems, cleaning and have I mentioned cleaning? She only stops to play with the kids, sing songs to them, kiss boo-boos, make meals and instruct nannies. Pwop Pwop is a gift!

Downstairs has also seen remarkable improvements in all areas. The layout has been changed and is much lighter, brighter, and of course, more clean! The children are responding very well to the set routines (so important that these are kept intact when adoptive parents visit!) and increased attention to education. Many of the children have a remarkable command of English already and will only continue to do so with the introduction of our English-based Homeschool curriculum in September.

The changes are big, but sometimes the small ones speak loudest of the daily work being done. I watched on numerous occasions as children, UNPROMPTED, would pick up trash and go deposit it in the trashcan. I watched them share with each other. I watched the nannies taking a stronger lead in discipline and engaging the children in activities to prevent melt-downs. I watched children (gasp!) put toys away when they were done with them.

Of course, there will always be areas needing improvement (despite your children being angels 100% of the time... ) but I want to affirm the positive I was able to see.

The Nonweilers have a humbling work ethic that I felt privileged to see. They are up early and do not stop working until well after dinner. In addition to the daily tasks of running such a large household like fixing meals, attending to children and a substantial staff they tackle many other jobs. Dr. Jack attends to his patient base of O children, school children and our staff, as well as follow-up care of other patients from the 'clinic weeks'. Dr. Jack is a gifted and caring professional and we are beyond grateful he has chosen to use his gift for the Lord.

After much fund raising, we were finally able to purchase a larger generator and Dr. Jack spent many hours researching, re-wiring, having a concrete pad poured and making sure our investment would be protected. He has also had the rain gutters re-worked so that the rainwater is collected into our reservoir eliminating the need for us to purchase water!

I could really go on and on. I will try and post more about what is being done so that you can share in the joy and so that you can know how to pray for and further encourage the work being done at Three Angels. Often times it is difficult to remain obedient to the call and we truly appreciate your support and prayers. We also want to be sure and share opportunities to praise and be glad! I know that Colleen works hard on your weekly newsletters and monthly updates, but I want to share just a few of my observations as well.

Stephania has been moved downstairs! This has been such a good thing for her continued development. The older children really interact with her well and provide her some much needed stimulation. Stephy gets to play and practice her standing outside and enjoys all the dancing. The kids talk to her and show her toys and have really embraced her. She is happy, happy, happy! The downstairs nannies are augmenting her therapy at Dr. Jack and Marcia's direction and she is thriving. This was a great joy to see and one of the many fantastic changes that are occurring.

Our kids love to dance. the little one always come to me saying, "Me-gan, moo-seek!" (eh, that's the closest i can spell to the way they say "music")

One time, while out side listening to music with the older kids, the nannies tried to get me to dance. i told them i couldn't. they insisted i dance anyway. So i simply held my finger up and moved it up and down to the beat. the kids have since picked that up (as you will see)!!

IBESR had a little celebration... so Fritzner and I took 5 kids out to enjoy it! --sit in the sun, eat snacks, listen to a voice mumbling stuff (there was a stage somewhere... we just couldn't see it). Megan has been super busy with visiting teams, taking care of the household, etc. Also, the Internet has been very temperamental lately. I'm going to take a guess that we are all sick of looking at her cat. ;)
So until we are able to get her some free time and a better connection here are some pics from some early trips.

Hello, this is Stacey. Megan and I are working on a Skype schedule for you guys. Our goal is to make sure that each family has a chance to chat with their kid[s] while I am here this month. Because electricity here is very unreliable, we will be using the gas-powered generator for power. We are setting up schedule of 30-minute blocks where the kids are free, and we can have electricity without turning the generator on and off.

We have tried to keep the times slightly varied to account for your work schedules and time differences. If NONE of the blocks work for you let us know and we will try to make other arrangements.

*The time slots are referring to the Eastern Time Zone.

Three Angels Christian Academy had a lovely Christmas party! A big thank you to Sandy, the Boones and their crew for doing an awesome job coordinating the gift boxes! The above photo is our gaggle of preschoolers. Grades 1-6 came later in the day for their party. (I know, it's a ton of kids - want to sponsor one???)
